Radial Arm Support

Engineered to provide targeted radial support and stabilisation where it matters most. Designed for comfort and control.

Improved Comfort, Safety and Efficiency

The Radial Arm Support was developed by a senior cardiac radiographer to overcome various problems associated with left radial access coronary angiography. The Radial Arm Support supports a patient’s left arm, so a surgeon can gain the access required for a left radial approach without leaning over the patient, and prevents the patient’s arm from slipping. This provides comfort for both the patient and operator and prevents the alternative femoral artery approach occurring, which requires greater recovery time and more complications.

Application

Step 1

With patient supine put the plastic support under mattresses at the level of the right elbow / upper arm. Loosely fix the narrow of the sling to the plastic support using attached Velcro

Step 2

Take wider end of sling across patient’s body and place beneath the patient’s left arm

Step 3

Bring wider part of the sling into a loop around left arm and secure in position using attached Velcro.

Step 4

Patient can now be prepared using sterile drapes and radial access can be obtained.

Step 5

Operator/scrub nurse raises patient drape to allow a non-scrubbed member of staff to bring patient’s left arm towards patient’s abdomen.

Step 6

The sterile drapes are re-positioned to allow procedure to commence

Step 7

The narrow end of the sling is adjusted as necessary to secure patient’s left arm in required position. This position should be comfortable for patient and operator.

Step 8

Support board previously under patient’s left arm during preparation can now be removed if required.
